Beyond 2013, Cash Will Be King (Part 1 of 2)

Today’s investment environment is uniquely challenging. With the decline in interest rates, liabilities have exploded. Active managers are struggling to outperform their benchmarks and equities are flat since 1999. The question ahead is how to set investment strategy going forward. Welcome to The Investment Ladder!

Hey everyone.  I'm Perry Johnson.  Welcome to my blog.  I am the former CEO and Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of BME Investment Partners and the former COO and CIO of Invesco Multi-Asset Strategies. We will explore secular economic and financial market themes that will impact and challenge investors around the globe. Most investors today are short-term oriented. However, this cycle is different. We are not in a normal economic cycle. The recent recession was not a normal business cycle recession. We are in a long-term credit cycle recession, the likes of which we have never seen in history. Secondly, the geopolitical backdrop is changing rapidly. Is the US loosing its status as a superpower? Is the balance of power shifting to China? What are the implications of the Arab Spring? Could the next true super power come into prominence by gaining greater military and political ties with the resource rich Middle East and North Africa? My hope is that by sharing and collaborating, by viewing the world through different lenses, we can gain a greater understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead. I welcome your input; and, I look forward to continuing to grow with you as we pursue greatness together.
